Privacy, in plain English.

I’m Alex Pickett, the developer of the Word in Chat. I use document data only to provide the editing actions you request. These information pages contain no analytics, cookies, or tracking scripts.

Your document and chat.

The editor opens the .docx file you choose and processes it in the editor panel. Host-managed files save through ChatGPT or Codex when the host permits writing. For uploaded attachments, Download DOCX exports an edited copy through ChatGPT or your browser.

When you ask chat to read or edit your document, tool results may include text, formatting, comments, and document references. Choosing Add to chat sends the highlighted text and its references into the conversation. Reading or searching can return other parts of the document too.

The hosted connection.

Cloudflare hosts the connection between chat and the editor. Commands and results pass through it and may contain document text. When you open a ChatGPT attachment, the hosted server downloads that selected DOCX using ChatGPT’s temporary file URL and passes its bytes to the editor. It does not retain the file after returning that response. The connection holds active session state in memory and removes it when the editor disconnects or after about 90 seconds without editor polling.

OpenAI processes your conversation and tool results under its policies and your account settings. Cloudflare processes hosting traffic under its applicable policies. Their records and retention are separate from the plugin’s temporary session state. See OpenAI’s privacy policy and Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Support and privacy requests.

Email sent to alex@cobbery.com reaches my support mailbox with your address, message, and attachments. I use that information to respond to your request. I keep support emails in my mailbox until I delete them. Remove private document details from anything you send.
